Antique Cabinet, Wood, Glass, Brass
The Victrola Obscura is a working camera obscura designed from the shell of an abandoned and abused Victrola record player. Creating the Victrola Obscura was an ongoing process of responding to the object; of integrating and utilizing holes and history left over from the Victrolas days as a music-making device as I transformed it into an image-making apparatus. I filled the void of a missing turntable with a wooden frame and homemade ground glass. I placed a lens inside of the amplification cone and what originally transmitted sounds began transmitting light. I made pencil holders, plaques and door pulls. It is up to the viewer to move the pencil to paper and make a picture. I made the apparatus and you make the image.
